Steven Raga

New York State Assemblymember, District 30
Distinguished Leadership & Service Award

Steven Raga proudly represents New York State Assembly District 30. With more than two decades of experience in public service, nonprofit leadership, advocacy, and community organizing, he has dedicated his career to strengthening the communities of Queens.

Before his election to the State Assembly, Steven served as Executive Director of Woodside on the Move, as well as Northeast Regional Manager for Policy & Advocacy at Susan G. Komen, Chief of Staff to Assemblymember Brian Barnwell, and Senior Strategist for Multicultural Leadership at AARP.

A longtime community advocate, Steven has served on numerous nonprofit and civic boards and founded Pilipino American Unity for Progress (UniPro) in Woodside. His career reflects a deep commitment to public service, community empowerment, and creating opportunities for the diverse communities he represents.

Michael Gianaris

Former New York State Senator & Deputy Majority Leader
Legacy of Public Service Award

Michael Gianaris is a longtime public servant and progressive advocate who represented western Queens in the New York State Senate for 15 years and served as Deputy Majority Leader. A child of immigrants, Michael was born and raised in Astoria, Queens. He devoted his career in government to addressing issues affecting the diverse communities of Queens and New York State.

During his legislative career, Michael played a significant role in advancing major tenant protections, bail and voting reforms, and investments in public transportation, public schools, NYCHA, immigrant legal services, and community-based organizations. He was also a vocal advocate for directing public resources toward affordable housing, reliable transportation, education, and other community priorities.

Deeply rooted in western Queens, Michael worked closely with community organizations, advocates, and grassroots leaders to strengthen neighborhoods and expand opportunity for New Yorkers. His years of public service reflects a longstanding commitment to the borough and the people and communities he represented.

Carlos Norena has dedicated more than 30 years to strengthening mission-driven organizations, including more than two decades focused exclusively on the nonprofit sector. Throughout his career, he has served as a Chief Financial Officer, Finance Director, Controller, Accountant, board member, volunteer, and trusted advisor.

As founder and Managing Principal of Plus Accounting Services Inc., Carlos helps nonprofits build strong financial operations, manage budgets, meet regulatory and grant requirements, and make informed decisions that support their missions.

For Carlos, nonprofit accounting has always been about more than debits and credits. He believes that strong financial systems create stronger organizations and, ultimately, stronger communities. His career reflects a longstanding commitment to helping nonprofits build the stability they need to focus on what matters most: the people and communities they serve.
